‘Julian had to stop there. He wanted to put his head down on the table
and burst into unmanly, undignified tears – for the boy he had been, scared and
terrified and twelve years old, looking at his younger brothers and sisters and
thinking, They’re mine now.’

Could
this series stop making me sad about Julian Blackthorn? Please?

Kit couldn’t help the feeling that Julian had used Evelyn to get rid of Kieran, and Tavvy to get rid of Evelyn, and done it so handily no one could ever prove it. If Julian had ever wanted to turn his hand to cons and crime, Kit thought, he would have excelled at it.

Please tell me someone’s written an AU where the Blackthorns + Emma are conmen trying to pull off a big heist. Please.

I liked Julian way more in LM than I expected to before I started TDA.

I feel like every chapter, there’s something that makes me sad for him: Julian assembling a computer in the Institute because he wants Ty to have it after all he’s lost. Julian hoping Mark would take care of everything but realizing Mark is now something else he has to deal with. Julian, at twelve, teaching himself to clean kitchens and walking miles to get groceries. Julian taking care of the entire Institute while hiding Arthur’s condition. Julian with the weight of the world on his shoulders.

This conversation from Lady Midnight has so much more meaning (and is so much creepier) now that we know the truth about Malcolm:

“I won’t,” Malcolm said. “I like happy endings.”
Julian spoke through his teeth. “Malcolm, this is not a love story.”
“Every story is a love story.”
Julian drew away from him and started toward the stairs. He was rarely actually angry at Malcolm, but right now his heart was pounding. He made it to the landing before Malcolm called after him; he turned, knowing he shouldn’t, and found the warlock looking up at him.
“Laws are meaningless, child,” Malcolm said in a low voice that somehow still carried. “There is nothing more important than love. And no law higher.”

jyneerso:

“You’re thinking of Shadowhunters the way they used to be,” said Julian. “I came of age in the Dark War. I was baptized in blood and fire.

You think angels are gentle,” said Julian, “they are anything but. They bring justice in blood and heavenly fire. They take vengeance with fists and iron. Their glory is such it would burn out your eyes if you looked at them. It is a cold and brutal glory.
